Two Little Fishies CDX Carbon Dioxide Adsorption Media is a colour-changing media for aquariums that helps raise and stabilize pH levels. It is designed to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air before it enters your aquarium system, which is particularly useful for tanks in enclosed spaces with high ambient CO2 levels.

How it works:

The CDX media works in a two-step process in conjunction with a protein skimmer.

  • C02 removal: The aquarium's air intake is routed through a media reactor containing CDX, as air is pulled through the reactor, the CDX media absorbs the C02.
  • Increased gas exchange: The C02-free air is then injected into the protein skimmer, this air has a lower partial pressure of C02, which promotes the removal of excess C02 dissolved in the aquarium water.

Benefits:

  • Stabilizes pH: By removing excess C02 from both the air and the water, the CDX media helps raise and maintain a stable, higher pH, which is crucial for the health of marine and reef aquariums.
  • Visual indicator: The media changes colour from white to violet as it becomes saturated and needs replacement, making it easy to know when it's time for a change.
  • Easy to use: It is designed to be used in a media reactor, such as the Two Little Fishies PHosBan Reactor, and then connected to a protein skimmer's air intake.
  • Promotes coral growth: Some reef keepers note that maintaining a stable pH of around 8.3 can help promote faster coral growth.

How to use:

  • Fill the reactor: Place the CDX media in a tall, columnar media reactor, such as Two Little Fishies PhosBan Reactor.
  • Prepare the adapter: Use a CDX Adaptor or a similar fitting to connect the air intake of your protein skimmer to the outlet of the media reactor.
  • Monitor the media: The media will slowly change from white to violet(or pink) over several weeks.
  • Replace as needed: When the media has completely changed colour, it has become exhausted and should be replaced with fresh CDX
