The Seachem Reef Trace Saltwater Conditioner for Aquariums contains a wide range of trace elements that have been shown to be essential for proper reef health and growth. Trace elements are typically depleted through use, oxidation, and precipitation. The latter two processes happen faster than with other micronutrients. As a result, it is critical to restore trace elements on a regular basis. Reef Trace can be used independently or in conjunction with Reef Plus. When both are used, the best results are obtained. Reef Trace contains no nitrates or phosphates.
A number of trace elements must be replenished in order to maintain an ideal environment for the growth and reproduction of marine life, but while the importance of trace elements has been recognized by aquarists for many years, the physiological reasons are not fully understood. The chemical elements in seawater vary, and their addition to the aquarium in trace amounts has a variety of effects on saltwater plants and invertebrate species. However, in general, these elements are necessary for metabolic processes and pigment formation.
