The Seachem PhosGuard Aquarium Filter Media is a filter that protects aquarium filters from phosphorus. PhosGuard removes phosphate and silicate from marine and freshwater aquariums quickly. Although PhosGuard is effective in both fresh and saltwater, it performs better in saltwater, and the need for it is more defined there. It is not recommended for phosphate-buffering freshwater (PhosGuard will remove the buffer until it is saturated). PhosGuard is highly porous and bead-shaped to allow water to flow easily through and around it, increasing both efficiency and capacity.
PhosGuard should be rinsed before use and placed so that the flow of water through it is maximized but not so that it tumbles against its inflow. It can be used in a trickle filter's canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area. It is advised to use a filter bag.
