The Seachem Marine Trace Saltwater Conditioner for Aquariums contains a wide range of trace elements that have been shown to be essential for proper fish health and growth. Fish, unlike terrestrial animals, obtain nutrients from both their food and their surroundings. Because trace elements are normally depleted through utilization, oxidation, and precipitation, it is critical to replenish them on a regular basis. Marine Trace contains only the elements that have been proven to be required by fish.
A number of trace elements must be replenished in order to maintain an ideal environment for the growth and reproduction of marine life, but while the importance of trace elements has been recognized by aquarists for many years, the physiological reasons are not fully understood. The chemical elements in seawater vary, and their addition to the aquarium in trace amounts has a variety of effects on saltwater plants and invertebrate species. However, in general, these elements are necessary for metabolic processes and pigment formation. Iron, for example, has been shown to benefit corals, anemones, and other photosynthetic animals in terms of colouring and growth.
