Seachem Reef Buffer Saltwater Conditioner for Aquariums increases carbonate alkalinity (KH) without affecting pH immediately. Long-term use will result in a tendency to stabilize at pH 8.3. Reef Builder, when used as directed, will not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium, which normally precipitate with increasing alkalinity. Reef Builder and Reef Buffer can be used in tandem. Reef Builder can be used to increase carbonate alkalinity without affecting pH. Reef Buffer can be used to increase carbonate alkalinity and pH. Reef alkalinity should be kept between 3 and 5 meq/L (8 and 14 dKH). Alkalinity should never be allowed to drop below 2 meq/L.
