Saga Ph Electrode for Aquariums
Regular price R 1,084.00The Saga pH Electrode is a precision glass probe used with aquarium pH controllers and monitors to provide real-time water acidity measurements. It is compatible with most aquarium equipment that uses a standard BNC connector.
Key Specifications
- Measurement Range: 0–14.0 pH.
- Connector Type: Standard BNC plug.
- Design: Waterproof and submersible, often including a suction cup for stable tank placement.
- Accuracy: Typically ±(0.1% + 2 digits) when used with the Saga controller.
Maintenance and Care
To ensure longevity (typically 12–18 months depending on use) and accuracy, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Gently clean the glass bulb with a soft brush every 2–3 weeks to remove algae or organic buildup.
- Avoid Physical Damage: Do not knock the glass bulb or wipe it with cloth/alcohol, as this can damage the sensitive membrane or create static charges.
- Storage: Never allow the probe to dry out. When not in use, store the tip in the included cap filled with 3M KCl (potassium chloride) storage solution or a pH 4.0 buffer solution.
Calibration Procedure
Regular calibration (every 2–4 weeks) is essential for accurate readings:
- Preparation: Rinse the probe with distilled or RO/DI water and gently blot it dry (do not rub).
- Point 1 (Neutral): Submerge the probe in pH 7.00 buffer solution. Wait for the reading to stabilize, then adjust the "pH7" or "CAL" knob/button on your controller until it displays 7.00.
- Point 2 (Acidic/Alkaline): Rinse again and submerge in pH 4.01 (common for freshwater/CO2 setups) or pH 10.00 (common for marine/calcium reactors). Adjust the "pH4" or "Slope" knob until the display matches the buffer.
