It comes in a 50 ml bottle and is used to calibrate the higher end of the pH range, typically as part of a two or three-point calibration process.
How to use a pH10 buffer solution:
The standard procedure for calibrating a pH meter with a pH10 buffer solution typically involves a multi-point calibration:
- Start with pH 7: Begin by calibrating the probe with a neutral pH 7.00 or 7.01 buffer solution. This sets the zero point of the measurement.
- Rinse the probe: Clean the electrode with deionized water after each calibration point to avoid contamination.
- Calibrate with pH 10: Place the clean probe into the pH10 calibration solution. Allow the reading to stabilize and then set the second calibration point.
- Confirm calibration: After the two-point calibration is complete, rinse the probe and place it back in the pH 7 buffer to ensure it reads correctly.
- Use fresh solution: Always pour a small amount of buffer into a separate container for calibration and never pour it back into the bottle, as this will contaminate the solution. Once opened, pH10 buffer has a shorter shelf life than other solutions.
